Terms of Service

Effective 7 August 2026 · Shovel Labs LLP

1 · Agreement and eligibility

These Terms are an electronic agreement under the Information Technology Act, 2000 and a binding contract under the Indian Contract Act, 1872 between you and Shovel Labs LLP, LLPIN AAX-1370, registered office: Om Chambers, 648/A, 4th Floor, Binnamangala 1st Stage, Indiranagar, Bangalore — 560038 (“Shovel”, “we”, “us”). By creating an account or using the Stevens app you accept them, together with the Privacy Policy, which is part of these Terms. You must be 18 years or older and competent to contract under Indian law, use your own mobile number, and connect only accounts (email, commerce) that are yours or that you are authorised to connect.

2 · What Stevens is — and what the beta means

Stevens is an AI personal assistant for household management. With your permission it reads the sources you connect, primarily your email, extracts the paperwork of daily life (bills, statements, orders, deliveries, renewals), and gives it back to you as a morning brief, answers to your questions, reminders and voice conversations — personally and, where you choose, shared with your household.

Stevens is offered as an invite-only beta. Features may be incomplete, behind a waitlist, or contain faults; they may change, pause or be withdrawn as the product develops, and the beta itself may end or be reset. During the beta, our team reviews conversations to check Stevens’ quality and fix his mistakes, as described in the Privacy Policy. We will communicate material changes in the app.

3 · The one clause to actually read — AI output and your responsibility

Stevens surfaces information; it does not take over your obligations.

Stevens’ briefs, answers and summaries are AI-generated readings of your documents. They may be incomplete, out of date or wrong, and something important may be missed. Stevens is not a financial adviser, lawyer, doctor, tax professional or payment service; nothing it says is professional advice, and it never moves your money. You remain solely responsible for your bills, deadlines, renewals and decisions; verify amounts and dates against the source document, which the app shows you precisely so you can. You can report a wrong or inappropriate response in the app; we review reports.

4 · Your account and connected sources

Login is by one-time password to your mobile number; keep your device and number secure, since activity under your login is yours. Connecting a source grants Stevens the access shown on that provider’s consent screen (for Gmail: read-only); you may disconnect any source at any time in the app, upon which syncing stops and access is revoked. Household mode shares only what a member explicitly shares, with attribution; if you share content that includes another person’s data, you are responsible for having their consent. Provide accurate profile information and keep it updated.

5 · Acceptable use

You agree not to: use the service unlawfully, or to infringe others’ rights or privacy (including connecting a mailbox that is not yours to connect); probe, scrape, reverse-engineer, decompile or interfere with the app or its systems, or circumvent rate limits and security; attempt to make the AI produce unlawful, infringing or harmful content, or misrepresent AI output as human or as ours; or resell, sublicense or provide the service to third parties, or use it to build a competing dataset or service. We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these Terms, with notice where practicable — and during the beta we may also suspend or withdraw access as part of operating the beta itself.

6 · Your content and our licence to process it

Your data stays yours. You grant Shovel a limited, revocable licence to host and process the content you provide and the data from sources you connect, solely to operate the service described in Section 2 and per the Privacy Policy, including personalising Stevens for you. We do not use your content to train AI models; if we ever want to, we will ask you first, separately — and Google user data is never used for model training in any case. The licence for a source ends when you disconnect it, and for everything when you delete your account, as described in the Privacy Policy. If you send us feedback or suggestions, we may use them without restriction or compensation. Shovel owns aggregated, de-identified data derived from use of the service, which will never be used to re-identify you and, for Google-sourced data, is used only as Google’s Limited Use requirements permit.

7 · Intellectual property and AI outputs

The app, its design, brand (“Stevens”, “Shovel”), software and orchestration are Shovel’s or its licensors’. We grant you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive licence to use the app on your devices for personal, non-commercial household use; no other rights are granted, whether by implication, estoppel or otherwise. As between you and Shovel, the outputs Stevens generates for you are yours to use for personal purposes to the extent permitted by law; we do not warrant that outputs are original, accurate or non-infringing, and you are responsible for how you use them.

8 · Fees

Stevens is currently free of charge. If paid plans are introduced, pricing and terms will be communicated in advance and will apply only on your acceptance; billing terms of Google Play or the Apple App Store will govern purchases made through them, including their refund policies, without limiting your statutory rights under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.

9 · Third-party services and app stores

Connected providers (Google, commerce platforms), our infrastructure providers, and the messaging platforms you reach Stevens on have their own terms and privacy policies; your use of their services through Stevens is also subject to those. If you talk to Stevens on WhatsApp, that conversation is also subject to WhatsApp’s terms. Stevens’ use of Google user data adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including Limited Use. We are not responsible for third-party services, their availability, or their data practices.

If you downloaded the app from the Apple App Store: these Terms are between you and Shovel only — Apple is not a party, has no obligation to furnish maintenance or support, and is not responsible for the service or for addressing any claims about it; Apple’s standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies to your download, and Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms with the right to enforce them against you. The equivalent applies to Google Play under its terms.

10 · Household content and intermediary status

Where one member of a household shares content that another member views, Shovel’s role in respect of that shared content is that of an intermediary within the meaning of Section 2(1)(w) of the Information Technology Act, 2000. Shovel observes due diligence under the IT (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, does not initiate, select the recipients of, or modify such shared content, and claims the protection of Section 79 of the Act. Complaints regarding shared content may be made to the Grievance Officer (Section 14) and will be handled within the timelines stated there.

11 · Availability, changes, termination

We aim for reliable service but do not promise uninterrupted availability; maintenance, provider outages and sync failures happen, and where a source fails to sync the app says so rather than pretending freshness. You may stop using Stevens and delete your account at any time in the app (Control Centre → Delete Account) or via shovel.company/stevens/delete-account. We may modify or discontinue features; if we discontinue the service materially, we will give reasonable notice, and you can delete your account and data as described in the Privacy Policy at any time before or after.

12 · Disclaimers and limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law: the service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy or non-infringement; and Shovel’s aggregate liability for all claims relating to the service is limited to the greater of the amounts you paid us in the twelve months before the claim and ₹1,000. Shovel is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss arising from AI output relied upon contrary to Section 3, missed or delayed information, third-party provider failures, or unauthorised access resulting from your device or number being compromised. Nothing in these Terms limits rights that cannot be limited under Indian law, including your rights as a consumer under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, or liability for fraud.

13 · Indemnity

You will indemnify Shovel against claims arising from your breach of these Terms, your unlawful use of the service, or content or accounts you connect or share without authority, to the extent permitted by law.

14 · Governing law, disputes, grievances

These Terms are governed by the laws of India; courts at Bengaluru, Karnataka have exclusive jurisdiction, without prejudice to your right to approach consumer fora under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019. Grievances: Grievance Officer Smriti Srivastava, smriti@shovel.company, Om Chambers, 648/A, 4th Floor, Binnamangala 1st Stage, Indiranagar, Bangalore — 560038. Complaints about shared household content: acknowledgement within 24 hours and disposal within 15 days, as the IT Rules, 2021 require. Other grievances: acknowledgement within 72 hours; resolution within 30 days.

15 · General

If any provision is held unenforceable, the rest survive. Our not enforcing a right is not a waiver. You may not assign these Terms; we may assign to an affiliate or acquirer with notice. These Terms plus the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement for the service. We may update these Terms; material changes will be notified in-app, and continued use after notice is acceptance. Sections 6, 7, 12, 13 and 14 survive termination of your account. Shovel is not liable for delay or failure caused by events beyond its reasonable control. Legal notices to you may be given in-app or to your registered contact details; legal notices to Shovel must be sent to the registered office above with a copy to contact@shovel.company.
